Nomadic State of Mind was founded with an ethos and intention to preserve the planet.

It began with socially responsible, vegan sandals, handmade from partly reclaimed rope.

How it's made

Nomadic State of Mind ensures responsible manufacturing and fair wages. The sandals are handmade by local artisans in Nicaragua, and the goal has always been to create steady employment there. Our philosophy has stayed the same: if it is done right in the beginning, it will last a long time.

Sustainability

Made for wearing wherever life takes you, our sandals are designed to be durable and socially responsible, creating jobs for a former farming community in Nicaragua. We produce as little waste as possible, and every rope scrap is recycled into accessories such as handbags, beach bags, key rings, bottle holders and dog leashes.

Rope

Our rope is made in North Carolina from partly reclaimed polypropylene cord. We found polypropylene to be the best and most consistent material for quality sandals: it is colourfast and extremely strong. When we look at environmental impact, durability is one of the most important factors. Durability is sustainability.

Soles

Our sandals with soles use a mix of Vibram soles and our own designed, partly recycled soles. The soles are cut and applied in our Nicaragua factory using low-VOC glue. Over the years we have tested many sole options, and we are proud of where our research has led us.

Packaging

We keep packaging to a minimum and almost every element is reusable. Inside the box, your sandals come in a recycled cloth bag you can use for anything, and the sizing tag makes a great bookmark.
